Abstract

In 2013, a combined test team consisting primarily of personnel from the Boeing Company and the Aircraft Test and Evaluation Centre, based at MoD Boscombe Down, teamed up with personnel from the Joint Aerial Delivery Test and Evaluation Unit and the Rotary Wing Operational Evaluation and Training Unit to conduct a full developmental and operational flight test on the Mark 6 Chinook in less than 10 months. More than 280 flight hours were flown at the Boeing flight test facility in Mesa, Arizona, Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, and Middletown, Delaware. Organizational and cultural differences were overcome, leading to an uncannily smooth test program and the comprehensive reports being turned in a full month earlier than planned.
