Abstract

At the Delft University of Technology a program was started to test alternative jet fuels. A procedure was developed to evaluate a fuel and find a maximum fuel blend that can safely be used. This procedure was followed in order to test blends of synthetic paraffinic kerosene (SPK) with jet A-1. During a preparation phase, which included fuel property determination, material compatibility tests and system test, a maximum safe blend of 95% SPK was found.

After a series of ground tests on SPK and jet A-1 blends, permission was received to perform flight tests. The successful flight test campaign included four flights on different fuel blends and in each flight a series of acceleration tests and in-flight restarts was performed.
